Schloss Lichtenstein (German Castles)

Schloss Lichtenstein is a fantastical castle built on a hilltop in this small town close to Reutlingen and Tübingen in the Swabian Jura. It was built on the site of an original medieval fortress that was demolished in 1802. The current building is built in a Romantic fantasy style. It was designed using references to the original castle, which are contained in a novel by Wilhelm Hauff, named Lichtenstein. Visitors can enter the castle and look around the restored rooms, as well as the collections of armour, and the Gothic chapel.
